About

The why behind WhyNot.

short version: we got tired of swiping too

Somewhere along the way, dating apps became the date. Endless grids, openers you rewrote four times, chats that peaked at "haha nice." WhyNot is our answer to all of it: an app whose whole job is to get you off the app and onto a patio, a taco crawl, a mini-golf course — with someone worth meeting.

The problem

Swiping is a slot machine.
Dates are the jackpot.

The old apps are optimized for time-on-app, so that's what you get: more profiles, more chats, more maybe-later. We flipped the metric. The only number we care about is dates that actually happen — which means less filtering, less texting, and a lot more "see you Thursday."

  • The endless grid of faces
  • Opener anxiety
  • Three-week text situationships
  • Pay-to-be-seen tricks
  • One good plan, with one good person

What we believe

Four things we won't budge on.

carved into the dog house

1

Real dates beat perfect matches

Compatibility on paper is a guess. An hour across a table is data. We'd rather get you to an okay first date this week than a "perfect match" you never meet.

2

Low stakes, high courage

"Why not?" is a small question on purpose. When the plan is easy and the pressure is off, saying yes stops being scary — and that's when good things happen.

3

Free, and staying free

Nobody should have to pay to be seen. WhyNot's matching is never pay-to-win — no boosts, no paywalled likes, no algorithmic shakedowns.

4

Kind by design

Every profile, photo, and message can be reported, and a human reviews it. Our Community Guidelines and Child Safety Standards aren't fine print — they're load-bearing.

The mascot with a job

Why a Shiba named Adrian?

because your most confident friend is basically a dog

Think about the friend who actually gets you out of the house. They don't hand you a spreadsheet of compatible partners — they say "trust me, Thursday, be there." That energy is a dog's energy: loyal, direct, zero overthinking. So our matchmaker became Adrian: a white-and-tan Shiba Inu who reads the vibe, makes the intro, books the plan, and nudges you out the door with one little "why not?"

He's AI where it helps (finding people you'll click with, picking a spot you'll both like) and stays out of the way where it matters — the date itself is gloriously human.

Okay. Why not?

almost, almost…
